Meanwhile, at The Chambers, the Changeless who manage the inhabitants of Strangely are sitting on a pair of parallel positioned couches, facing one another around the coffee table at the furthermost end of Agatha’s office.
Agatha is seated on a single seated sofa. Her slender ankles are folded neatly across each other as she sits on the edge of her seat.
David, the Changeless whom Jenny thinks considered himself too important to remember her name, but in fact had only met her that morning she tried to squeeze past him, says in a deep, gruff voice, “Why us? Why four girls from Strangely?”
Chris bites his lip, in a nervous habit, before he replies, “It must be Gorgon and her prophecy. Before Gorgon was banished to The OtherWorld, she vowed that each generation of girls who lived in the crooked house would become stronger and stronger, until the arrival of four sisters.”
David dismisses Chris, “That does not explain anything. Just because someone predicts something is going to happen, does not mean it is actually going to happen that way.”
Vaughn, the youngest Changeless, agrees, “That’s true. Her prophecy was not set in stone. Gorgon was angry and made idle threats.”
Jason smirks. “Not so idle any more, is it?”
Agatha interrupts their bickering, “Strangely is part of an intricate system of Havens, and we, the Changeless, oversee these Havens. We keep order, we gather facts and evidence to solve and prevent crimes against Humanity.”
“We already know this, you should be explaining it to the girls,” Jason mumbles.
Agatha glances in his direction, but decides to ignore his remark, and continues her monologue, “With our headquarters in the Promised land, who provide direction and support to fifty-six Heavens, more than three-hundred and fifty smaller Havens, like Strangely, and more than a hundred liaison offices on planet Earth itself...”
David clears his throat. “Agatha, we have more pressing matters to discuss than to listen to a history lesson.”
Agatha glares in his direction. “Together, all the Changeless have approximately thirty-five thousand angels who perform duties for them in fulfilling their main objective, while the Changeless’ activities are closely scrutinised by only one Entity.”
Chris interrupts her, “Gorgon. Not only did she predict the coming of four girls who will fix the broken world, she also ensured the world will be well and truly damaged thereby forcing the hand of our Entity.”
“But we’re supposed to just be a place of rehabilitation for lost souls, aren’t we?” Vaughn asks.
“We were never supposed to battle evil, that’s not our field of expertise, but now we have no choice. The Haven of Wedonn would have been more equipped to handle a situation like this. However, Gorgon has taken Abby because she knows Emily, Jenny and Zara will stop at nothing to find her and she wants their powers,” Chris says in his deep, timbre voice.
“If only we ignored the orders from Above, and never let the girls set their eyes on the Book of Eudemon.” Jason sighs.
Vaughn agrees, “Then everything would be just as simple as it’s always been.”
Agatha interrupts their grumbling, “We have our orders, these four young girls, completely unrelated, except for the fact they died the exact same way, are the only answer to fixing the world.”
