"She actually said those words?"
Jenny could not help but notice Agatha trying to hide the fear which crept across her delicate features. "Yeah, she said, I left New York as if she was surprised to be in a different place. I've always been here, haven't I?"
Agatha stands quickly. As if giving herself time to compose herself, she slides her palms down her dark, navy skirt smoothing out any creases which might have dared to make her appearance as anything less than perfect. She takes a shallow breath and smiles widely at Jenny. "Do you mind if we handle the problem about the prophecy and the Book of Eudemon first, Jenny?"
"And then you'll tell me about New York?"
"Of course, I will," she says softly, not looking her in the eye.
Jenny cannot suppress the feeling that Agatha is lying to her. Why will she not tell her about this place called, New York?
Agatha walks to the door and holds it open for Jenny to leave.
"We'll talk again, soon after I've spoken to Chris," she says, watching Jenny exit her office.
As soon as Jenny steps into the bright hallway, Agatha closes her office door abruptly, leaving her wondering what is going on. Why all the secrecy?
The shimmering light from outside reflects off the white walls, and Jenny sees a shadow of a figure walking down the passageway. She squints her eyes to make sure it is her friend, before she asks, "Abby? Is that you?"
"What are you doing?" Abby asks as she reaches her.
"Nothing much."
"Jason was looking for you?"
"Really? When?"
"While you were in the office with Agatha."
"What did you tell him?"
"That you were with Agatha."
Too much has happened in the last few minutes for Jenny to make sense of, trying to organise her thoughts, she decides to confide in Abby. "I had a vision before I went into Agatha's office. I actually saw her, the way she was standing and what she was wearing, even before I saw her," she whispers.
"You used your powers?" Abby asks, in an equally hushed tone.
"I know we agreed, but it was not as if I could have stopped it."
"The Book of Eudemon says when we use our powers, the entire OtherWorld knows about it. We have to be careful, or they could get us killed."
